Description
RIP software for large-format and specialty printing
Wasatch SoftRIP is RIP software from Wasatch Computer Technology. Wasatch describes it as “sophisticated RIP software made easy,” with simple setup, an intuitive workflow and powerful print controls. Wasatch offers SoftRIP solutions for digital label printing, dye sublimation, direct-to-garment printing, screen printing and more, and its add-on options such as Variable Data Printing and Automation let you specialize and scale your production.
This listing is the Wasatch SoftRIP 1-Year Subscription, the base license that every Wasatch setup starts with.
Key features
- ICC-based color management. The Color Transforms screen manages color across the whole workflow: custom ICC input and output profiles, rendering intents, use of embedded ICC profiles, correction curves, a calibration utility, color separation rules, ink limiting and halftone methods.
- Layout tab and Smart Nesting. Use the full width of your media as a canvas. Drag and drop new or already-RIP’d jobs, then nest them automatically with Tightest Fit (saves the most media), Easy Cut, Super Easy Cut (fewest trim cuts), Simple Nesting or Shape Nesting, with optional rotation.
- Job controls. Sizing, cropping, scaling and tiling for single jobs, plus paneling for jobs wider than your printer.
- Spot color and gamut tools in the Color menu, including custom halftone screen effects.
- Parallel processing. SoftRIP can process more than one image at a time and use multiple CPUs.
- Wide file support: PostScript Level 3, PDF, EPS, TIFF, JPG, GIF, PNG, PSD, BMP, PCX, PPM, TGA and DCS2.
What the 1-year subscription includes
- Current software and updates for the full term. Wasatch says updates to registration codes install automatically as long as the SoftRIP PC is connected to the internet.
- Wasatch tech support for as long as the subscription is active, including Wasatch’s Service Data Upload feature for sending RIP and printer settings to support.
- Two printers out of the box. To drive a third printer or more, add a Wasatch Additional Print Unit for each additional printer. Wasatch says a subscription can scale up to a total of eight print units.
Add-on options and Premium Drivers
Add-ons are 1-year subscriptions added to your SoftRIP license: Automation, Cutting, Fotoba, Screen Printing, Textile, Variable Data Printing and three General File Out (GFO) options. Some printers also need a Premium Drivers tier. Wasatch’s supported printers list shows which tier each printer needs, and each tier includes the drivers from the lower tiers.
Who it’s for
Sign, print, label and textile shops and their production staff who want one RIP to drive their printers with consistent color and efficient media use, and who want to add specialty options as the business grows.
System requirements (from Wasatch)
- Minimum: 2.5 GHz quad-core processor, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD/SSD, internet connection, Windows 10 or 11.
- Recommended: 3 GHz or faster quad-core processor, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB or larger solid state drive (SSDs for all system drives and print queues), high-speed internet, Windows 10 or 11 64-bit.

- Add the options your work needs, such as Cutting for contour cutting or Textile for textile printing.
Wasatch SoftRIP FAQ
Is this a subscription or a perpetual license?
A subscription. This is a prepaid 1-year (twelve-month) subscription. DTG sells Wasatch as subscriptions only, with no owned (perpetual) versions.
What is included with the subscription?
The current SoftRIP software and updates, plus Wasatch tech support, for as long as the subscription is active. Add-on options and Premium Drivers are sold separately.
How many printers can SoftRIP drive?
Two printers out of the box. For each additional printer, add a Wasatch Additional Print Unit. Wasatch says a subscription can scale up to a total of eight print units.
Does my printer need Premium Drivers?
Some printers do. Wasatch’s supported printers list shows whether a printer is covered by the base subscription or needs Premium Drivers 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Each tier includes the lower tiers, so buy only the highest tier you need.
Do I need an add-on to use a cutter?
Yes. Wasatch says all supported cutting devices require the Contour Cutting Option, sold here as the Wasatch Cutting Option. Some cutters also require Premium Drivers 1.
What computer do I need?
Windows 10 or 11. Wasatch’s minimum is a 2.5 GHz quad-core processor, 8 GB RAM and a 500 GB drive, and it recommends 32 GB RAM and solid state drives.
What file types can SoftRIP open?
PostScript Level 3, PDF, EPS, TIFF, JPG, GIF, PNG, PSD, BMP, PCX, PPM, TGA and DCS2.
How is it delivered?
As a digital license. Nothing ships.
