Common questions

What is the difference between Enhanced Matte Paper and Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte?

Epson sells the roll version as Enhanced Matte Paper and the cut-sheet version as Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte. Epson describes both the same way: a bright white, flat matte surface for images that do not need gloss. Epson lists both at 10.3 mil thick with a brightness of 104.

Which inks is it made for?

Epson says it is designed primarily for Epson UltraChrome, Epson Archival and DuraBrite inks, and that it can also be used with dye-based inks.

What core and spindle does the roll use?

Epson lists a 3-inch core and a 3-inch high-tension spindle.

Will this width fit my printer?

A 17″ roll needs a printer that takes rolls at least 17″ wide. The current Epson SureColor printers whose user’s guides list Enhanced Matte Paper and that take a 17″ roll are listed above under “Works with”.

DTG's take on the product Epson Enhanced Matte Paper, 17" x 100' Roll (S450439)

Response:

Check out the short video below to see the color gamut, white point, and dMax of Epson Enhanced Matte Paper. Epson's Enhanced Matte Paper is an affordable, matte photo paper with a smooth and fairly bright surface. It's moderately heavy weight and thickness go well beyond standard matte papers making it ideal for matte photo and fine art prints. It is a great, lesser-expensive alternative to heavier, smooth fine art papers especially if presented framed, behind glass. It performs almost as well to those heavier smooth fine art papers in terms of its dMax (deepest black) and overall color gamut. It has been on the market for decades dating back to the original Epson inkjet printers and has been improved over the years in terms of gamut and white point. Epson Enhanced Matte is so versatile that it is our most popular selling inkjet paper, used by artists, photographers, frame shops, art galleries, and more. This matte paper works with all water based (aqueous) inkjet printers from Epson, HP, and Canon, as well as latex and resin printers. Wilhelm Imaging Research, one of the premier labs for archival testing of prints, has the print permanence rating for Epson's Ultrachrome inkset (Stylus Pro 7900/9900) on Enhanced Matte Paper at the following figures below (generally speaking we would expect the below numbers to nearly double with the newer ink sets in the P7570/P9570/P7000/P9000):
