The Canon GP Series are the world’s first large format printer with aqueous pigment Fluorescent Pink Ink*. The 24″ GP-2000 is a 10-color (MBK, BK, GY, C, M, Y, R, O, G, V) plus Fluorescent Pink Ink large format printer. Equipped with Canon’s unique Radiant Infusion which layers the newly developed Fluorescent Pink Ink with other inks on the paper surface during printing creating bright and soft color reproduction. With the new Red, Orange, Green, Violet, and Fluorescent Pink Inks, the imagePROGRAF GP-2000 printer has the largest color gamut of any imagePROGRAF printer to date. Other features include built in color calibration, Intelligent Media Handling, and USB Thumb Drive printing. These imagePROGRAF GP Series printers are the world’s first “PANTONE Calibrated” Pantone licensed1 for “PANTONE PASTELS & NEONS GUIDE Coated”2, which includes fluorescent and pastel colors. Can hit 99% of the colors in the PANTONETM FORMULA GUIDE solid coated. The imagePROGRAF GP-2000 is the smaller brother to the larger, 44-inch Canon GP-4000 printer. The Canon GP-2000 can produce prints up to 24 inches wide on roll or sheet media. Both of these Canon imagePROGRAF GP series printers feature a 10-color inkset consisting of a the standard primary colors and grays as well as red, orange, green and blue for widening color gamut to cover 99% of the Pantone Solid Coated formula guide. They also include a fluorescent pink ink as well. These printers are ideal for printing bright, saturated prints and posters on banner material, photo paper, bond paper, and others.

Canon printers differ from Epson printers in that they have end-user replaceable printheads. Epson utilizes piezo inkjet printheads and Canon uses thermal printheads. Epson’s heads are considered part of the hardware and are meant to last for years of printing. Canon’s thermal printheads are considered a consumable and need to be replaced periodically (depends on how many prints you generate). So, when the printhead finally fails, you can purchase a new Canon printhead (PF-10) and replace it yourself in a matter of minutes. If an Epson printhead fails, it is a service call to have a professional technician replace the head. If the printer is in warranty, then all costs are covered, if not, then you’re out of pocket for the Epson printhead and service.

The printer comes with a full set of 160ml ink cartridges (330ml matte black) to get it up and running and producing lots of prints. Canon GP-2000 ink cartridges come in three different size options that you can choose from depending on your production needs (number and size of prints you make per week). Choose from the standard 160ml size if you’re only doing a few prints per week. If you’re doing lots of printing (several a day) choose the larger 700ml cartridges. If you’re producing somewhere in between, you can go with the 330ml cartridges. The larger the cartridge, the lower the cost per ml and you can mix and match sizes if you typically use certain colors more than others.
