The Epson SureColor F1070 Direct to Garment Printer is one of three DTG printers that Epson has currently available which also includes the Epson F2270 and the Epson F3070 printers. The F1070 DTG printer produces the same great prints, but has a smaller print area, is slower, and the cost per print is a little higher when compared to the SureColor F2270 & F3070 DTG printers. But if you’re just getting started in t-shirt printing or garment decoration, the F1070 is a great entry level DTG printer.
As you can see from the product images, the Epson F1070 printer has a unique design relative to its bigger brother printers. It has a very small footprint and is encased in see-through windows. It’s common sense operation with convenient controls make printing t-shirts and other garments a snap. The precision core print head utilizes NVT or nozzle verification technology that monitors nozzle health and automatically adjusts itself for optimal performance, high quality and consistent prints.
The Epson SureColor F1070 printer uses Epson’s UltraChrome DG2 Ink technology. Consisting of CMYK plus white, this ink yields wide gamut and bright colors while offering extreme durability at the same time. These inks conform to Oeko-Tex ECO PASSPORT standards and are compliant to ECOCERT Global Organic Textile Standards (when applied to fabric and fixed appropriately). They are safe for adults, children, and babies. Epson F1070 Inks come in 250ml individual packs and can be purchased here.
While the Epson F1070 is not as fast as its bigger brother, the F2270 printer, it still produces prints fairly quickly. Most people print in “quality” mode which is the average setting for speed vs quality on the SureColor F1070. It can produce a 10×12 print on a white t-shirt in 1:42 seconds. That mode can produce a 10×12 image on a dark shirt using white ink in 4:25 seconds. See the image below for the different print modes in terms of quality with associated print times.
The Epson SureColor F1070 DTF & DTG printer comes included with a 1 year, whole unit exchange warranty (or on-site at Epson’s discretion) and additional years of warranty can be purchased to extend the warranty for up to a total of 5 years. If you are considering a warranty, it is most cost effective to purchase the extended warranty at the same time that you purchase the printer as Epson offers those plans at a significantly lower price. If you are new to direct to garment printing, you will also want to consider a pretreatment machine if you are going to be printing to dark garments (using the white ink of the F1070 printer). When printing white ink, the fabric that you are printing to requires a pretreat liquid for the white ink to adhere properly. This can be hand applies with a roller however if you are doing any a decent amount of production you will want a machine to do the work for you. We sell a couple of different options and recommend the Ecofreen Mister T series of pretreaters. These machines are affordable, fast, consistent, and very reliable.
