The Epson SureColor F2270 Direct to Garment Printer is one of three DTG printers that Epson has currently available which also includes the Epson F1070 and the Epson F3070 printers. The Epson F2270 DTG printer produces the same great prints, and falls in between the other two printers is print size as well as cost per ml for ink. This size platform on the F2270 has dominated the marketplace for years and is really the “sweet spot” for t-shirt printing and direct to garment decoration in terms of production capability and cost per print.

As you can see from the product images, the Epson F2270 printer has a unique design relative to its brother printers. It has a relatively small footprint for its capabilities (various size platens up to 16×20 inches) and features larger ink capacities compared to the Epson F1070. It’s common sense operation with convenient controls make printing t-shirts and other garments a very simple process. The precision core print head utilizes NVT or nozzle verification technology that monitors nozzle health and automatically adjusts itself for optimal performance, high quality and consistent prints. The F2270’s interchangeable platen system allows for different sizes (small to large) as well as specialty platens including for hats, shoes, sleeves, koozies, face-masks, and more! Shop for some optional platens here.

The Epson SureColor F2270 printer uses Epson’s UltraChrome DG2 Ink technology. Consisting of CMYK plus white, this ink yields wide gamut & bright colors while at the same time offering extreme durability. These inks conform to Oeko-Tex ECO PASSPORT standards and are compliant to ECOCERT Global Organic Textile Standards (when applied to fabric and fixed appropriately). They are safe for adults, children, and babies. Epson F2270 Inks come in 800ml individual packs and can be purchased here. These large 800ml packs mean less time changing out inks as well as less plastic and waste for the environment when compared to cartridges.

The SureColor F2270 offers a great new feature called Garment Thickness Optimization. This system automatically measures the thickness and height of the garment (or item) across its length to create a garment height profile. The printer then determines the minimum, average, and maximum heights. The printhead then adjusts up and/or down to the optimal height as desired by the media settings to optimize the quality of the print.

The ink in the F2270 is obviously great for direct to garment and textile applications but can also be used to print in the DTF process as well. With this hybrid DTG/DTF solution, the F2270 allows you to print to a huge variety of items.

While the Epson F2270 is not as fast as its bigger brother, the F3070 printer, it still produces prints fairly quickly. Most people print in “production” mode which is the average setting for speed vs quality on the SureColor F2270. It can produce a 14×16 print on a white t-shirt in 43 seconds. That mode can produce a 14×16 image on a dark shirt using white ink in 2:22 seconds. See the image below for the different print modes in terms of quality with associated print times.

The Epson SureColor F2270 DTF & DTG printer comes included with a 1 year, on-site warranty and additional years of warranty can be purchased to extend the warranty for up to a total of 5 years. If you are considering a warranty, it is most cost effective to purchase the extended warranty at the same time that you purchase the printer as Epson offers those plans at a significantly lower price. You can shop for Epson F2270 extended warranties here.
If you are new to direct to garment printing, you will also want to consider a pretreatment machine if you are going to be printing to dark garments (using the white ink of the F2270 printer). When printing white ink, the fabric that you are printing to requires a pretreat liquid for the white ink to adhere properly. This can be hand applies with a roller however if you are doing any a decent amount of production you will want a machine to do the work for you. We sell a couple of different options and recommend the Ecofreen Mister T series of pretreaters. These machines are affordable, fast, consistent, and very reliable. If you have any questions at all on how or why you need a direct to garment pretreat solution please call DTG at 800.681.0024.
