The imagePROGRAF GP-200 is the smaller brother to the larger, 36-inch Canon GP-300 printer. The Canon GP-200 can produce prints up to 24 inches wide on roll or sheet media. Canon printers differ from Epson printers in that they have end-user replaceable printheads. Epson utilizes piezo inkjet printheads and Canon uses thermal printheads. Epson’s heads are considered part of the hardware and are meant to last for years of printing. Canon’s thermal printheads are considered a consumable and need to be replaced periodically (depends on how many prints you generate). So, when the printhead finally fails, you can purchase a new Canon printhead and replace it yourself in a matter of minutes. If an Epson printhead fails, it is a service call to have a professional technician replace the head. If the printer is in warranty, then all costs are covered, if not, then you’re out of pocket for the Epson printhead and service.
The printer comes with a full set of starter, 90ml ink cartridges to get it up and running and producing several prints. Canon GP-200 ink cartridges come in three different size options that you can choose from depending on your production needs (number and size of prints you make per week). Choose from the standard 130ml size if you’re only doing a few prints per week. If you’re doing lots of printing (several a day) choose the larger 300ml cartridges. The larger the cartridge, the lower the cost per ml and you can mix and match sizes if you typically use certain colors more than others.

The Canon imagePROGRAF GP-200 24-inch printer comes with a ton of different software applications to make it easy to print and manage your large format printer. Included are Mac & Windows print drivers, poster artist design software, a media configuration tool, accounting manager to report ink and paper use, and much more. You can also add a RIP option to make the Canon printer postscript compatible. One of our favorite, affordable print software solutions is Mirage, which allows you to nest, step and repeat, layout, color manage, create picture packages and much more. The Canon imagePROGRAF GP-200 printer comes with a 2-year limited warranty from Canon (the print head carries a separate Canon warranty). You can also purchase an additional 1 year or 2 year extended warranty. Shop for Canon GP-200 warranties here.
