Epson’s Resin ink printers, the SureColor R5070 and the SureColor R5070L use a different inkset compared to their other signage models, the Epson S40600, S60600, & S80600 printers. The SureColor R series use water based inks which can be most closely compared to HP’s latex series of printers. The Epson SureColor R5070L printer utilizes a bulk ink pack system with a capacity of 1500ml (1.5L). These R5070L Ultrachrome RS ink packs can be found here.
Epson’s SureColor Resin printers, like their HP Latex counterparts, have a few benefits when compared to eco solvent printers. These inks are compatible with a wider variety of medias both uncoated and coated so you have quite the versatility with print materials. They are also “instantly” cured with the built in heater/dryer system in the R5070L. This means the prints can be immediately laminated coming right off the printer without worrying about outgassing of the inks. Finally, they are water based so theoretically they are “cleaner” than eco solvent inks (though there is much debate over this topic).
Prints off the Epson SureColor R5070L are wide gamut, very smooth, and very consistent when compared to some of the latex competition out there. This is mainly due to the micro piezo head technology that is used in Epson printers. By not using heat to generate the droplet, Epson printheads yield a small, consistent, and precise dot pattern. Printing consistently is extremely important especially when you are producing large wall graphics consisting of several printed panels that will be lined up next to each other.
The 64″ wide Epson SureColor R5070L printer comes included with a 1 year, on-site warranty and additional years of warranty can be purchased to extend the warranty for up to a total of 5 years. If you are considering a warranty, it is most cost effective to purchase the extended warranty at the same time that you purchase the printer as Epson offers those plans at a significantly lower price.
