Hasselblad today has announced the new H3DII-50; at 50 million pixels (megapixels), the H3DII-50 is the highest resolution, medium format DSLR camera available today. Built on the H3DII-Series camera platform, the H3DII-50 offers greater, integrated camera functionality with improved optical performance via Hasselblad’s DAC (Digital-APO-Correction) and Ultra Focus I/II technology. As of the morning of 16/06/2008, ALPA has started delivering the new, highly anticipated ALPA 12 MAX. According to www.alpa.ch, these first deliveries will include cameras to “pre-ordering customers”.

In addition, several weeks back, ALPA announced a “short-list” of accessories specific to the ALPA 12 MAX. These accessories include several hand grips, both in rosewood and synthetic black, a new accessory viewfinder adapters for the Linhof multi-focus optical viewfinder, and a stitching adapter / tripod mount.

As expected, there has been a tremendous amount interest and discussion of this the camera, as it fits an attractive niche between several, highly regarded technical camera systems from ALPA, the ALPA 12 SWA & ALPA 12 XY.

THE NEW ILFOCHROME®

We have begun stocking Ilford’s newly released GALERIE Smooth High Gloss ink-jet media (IGSHGM), in both sheet and roll sizes. This true, polyester film-based media offers superb photographic image quality and consistency, and is ideal for high-end photography and commercial presentation. GALERIE Smooth High Gloss is the first ink-jet media to compare favorably to Ilford’s long-time darkroom favorite, IlfoChrome®. It features an ultra-glossy surface, vibrant color gamut, and offers “instant” drying with most current inks.

The dimensionally stable, tear and crease resistant Dupont Melinex® base is coated with a proprietary inkjet receiving layer. This offers a broad color gamut, excellent drying times, and provides eye catching graphic displays. In addition, it provides tremendous capability with today’s pigment and dye-based ink-jet printers, including Epson’s UltraChrome™ and UltraChrome K3™ ink sets.

As with all papers we stock, we have a full selection of custom ICC profiles available for this media. These profiles include all of the current Epson printers such as the Stylus Pro 3800, Stylus Pro 4880, Stylus Pro 7880, Stylus Pro 9880, and Stylus Pro 11880. Hasselblad has released the final version of its innovative Phocus® RAW processing software. Since its public beta release several months ago, Phocus® has quickly become the defacto RAW processor and tethering application for Hasselblad’s current digital camera system.

Now that Phocus® is function complete, you will find complete camera control of the H3D, H3DII, and CF/H2F systems, including Live Video, AF operation, and mirror lock-up capability available via the camera control pane in Phocus®.
